Zoo Med New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is preferred over any other type of moss for terrarium use due to its unique softness and amazing moisture-holding ability. This lush carpet-like moss can hold moisture up to 20x its dry weight!

Features:

  • Natural compounds in moss prevents it from decomposing in humid environments
  • Holds more water and stays moist longer than any other type of moss
  • Long-lasting - can be washed and reused several times
  • Great for use with most species of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, invertebrates, and small snakes

My Tortoises Love It
March 17, 2021
I use cedar chips at the base of my tortoise cages and Zoo Med New
Zealand Sphagnum Moss, above the cedar chips so that my tortoises can hide in it. The Zoo Med New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is much softer than the cedar chips and all my tortoises, from hatchlings to adults love to hide in it.
Pros
  • it can be fluffed out and it's very soft.
Cons
  • after a while it gets powdery and I do worry that when it gets powdery it may get into my tortoise's eyes.
