I have had my goldfish for 19 years and have used this filter in the tank the whole time. My only problem with it is the suction cups dissolve over time and I have to replace the whole filter and not just the cartridge. I am trying to find replacement suction cups. Petco has stopped carrying this filter and I don't want to change to a different type. I am afraid it will kill the fish. His poor buddy only lived 8 years. Recently saw on a late night show that the longest a goldfish lived was 43 years. He has a long way to go.

Good small filter that shows you what it traps

This filter cleans as it releases air bubbles into the warer I haven't had problems with suction cups or clousing and think this does a better job cleaning than other small filters I have used. I have it attached to a small Tetra pump because I've replaced my Tetra filter with the Penn Plax disposable system
Cons
- Wish I could replace the filter and charcoal rather than throwing the whole unit out.

This filter contaminated my fish tank... The directions say to briefly rinse the cartridge before placing it in the tank to prevent cloudiness. I rinsed the cartridge very thoroughly, but each time I placed it in water, it clouded the water so severely that the filter was barely visible!! Definitely not safe for fish.

no matter how much I rinsed and rinsed the cartridge, it always spewed out junk. I did several tests before placing the filter in my fish tank, and each time the water was completely clouded by the filter. It did nothing to filter the water, and instead made it uninhabitable for aquatic life.

I have used these in my small tanks for a number of years.
Pros
- They are small enough for 1 and 1/2 gal tanks and are easy to clean and change.
Cons
- Only problem I have had is that the suction cups on the back seem to degrade faster than the did in the past.

Smallworld Filter

I have used the Penn-plax smallworld filters in smal tanks and fish bowls for some time. They do a very good job of filtering these small tanks. I am glad that I could find some place to contonue getting them.
Pros
- I like their size and efficiency,
Cons
- The suction cups tend to deteriorate over time and I cannot find replacement cups for them thus causing the need to buy new filters from time to time.
